It Snowed!

Late last night and into the early morning hours, it snowed in Southeast Texas. This is totally amazing because this is such a rare occurrence here. Just how rare? The last time it occurred here was back in 1988! The area received between 3-4 inches. For those of you who live where it regularly snows a great deal, I am sure that amount is almost laughable, but here people are not used to it and do not know how to function in it.

I grow up in Virginia, among other places, so I have experienced snow before. While I do think snow is pretty, I do not particularly care for it otherwise. I hate too be cold whatsoever and wheelchairs do not function well in the snow, because the snow builds up on the tires and the tires no longer get traction.

My Boyfriend, Donald, on the other hand loves cold weather and snow. He always says that he likes it to be colder and colder. He loves the weather whenever there are changes occurring with it and he wants the various seasons to feel as each one should. So, needless to say, Donald was overjoyed about the snow the area received. In fact, he was outside playing in it until around 5:00 a.m. this morning. He was such a kid at heart and I was overjoyed to witness his sense of pure joy and amazement!

As I expressed earlier, snow is not my favorite thing to experience. Nevertheless, I did stay awake until the early morning hours and did share the experience with Donald. I spent a few minutes out in it with him and even took some photos of the event.  You see, I just love photos and I refer to my camera as my “memory maker,”, so I just had to capture the event for all time. As soon as possible, I will try to post a few photos for you to see.

Snow even reminds me of my mom. When we lived in Virginia, on one occasion, near Thanksgiving Day, my mom was outside in the snow Bar-B-Queue smoking a turkey. Mom did so because my dad really wanted the turkey to have that smoky flavor. Now, that’s going above and beyond for those you love! I will carry that memory of my mom with me forever!

Donald, my love, I hope you truly enjoyed your chance to experience snow in southeast Texas. There is no telling when or if this will occur once again. Wow…snow in southeast Texas! I would have told you that it would never happen here if I hadn’t seen and experienced it for myself.

Hummingbirds Lay Their Eggs on Different Days!

I just recently discoved something absolutely amazing about female hummingbirds.  They lay their eggs on different days rather then minutes or hours apart!  Did you know this?  I did not know this until doing some reasearch recently on the subeject of hummingbirds.  This is the type of interesting and usual information about hummingbirds that I would have enjoyed sharing with my mom if she were still alive today, so I wanted to share it with you, my readers.

During a breading season, a female hummingbird can have two broods in a season.  Although rare, a thrid is not unheard of and can occur.  Usually, the female will lay two eggs each time.  Normally, the eggs are laid in the morning.  Surprisingly, these eggs aren’t born on the same day!  There is usually one to two days between the laying of each egg!

How about it ladies, could you go for that long if you were having twins, tripplets, or other multiple births?  Even though I myself have never before expecienced the joy of giving birth, I would bet not.  This amazing bird truly fascinates me and I never cease to be amazed by it and this instance is no different.  In fact, I am now even more awed by this tiny bird because of this very surprising discovery.  How about you?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello everyone!  I hope that each of you are having a very blessed holiday.  However and wherever you choose to spend your day, take the time to appreciate all of life’s many blessings.  Life is far too short to do otherwise.  I know that I myself have far too many to do otherwise.

To all my family and friends I love each of you very much and I want to thank you for all that you bring to my life.  Each of you truly make my life worth living and I can’t imagin it without you in it.

Also, I am very happy and thankful that my sister and her husband have just recently moved back to Texas from Florida.  Having you live closer and getting to visit with you was a very wonderful blessing.  Thanks for coming to visit all the family!

In short, I have so many blessings to be thankful for and I do not intend to take any of them for granted.  I hope that each of you will realize all your own blessings in life and choose not to take them for granted either.  Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

Computer Troubles

Technology is a wonderful thing when it is working properly, but very frustrating whenever it isn’t. That is my situation. My computer has been giving me all kinds of problems recently, it will freeze up in the middle of use, it takes several attempts to reboot successfully and the CD ROM drive won’t read a disk. Each time I use the computer lately I must pray that I will successfully complete the task at hand without encountering another problem. The whole situation makes me want to pull my hair out! You see, I love the computer as long as mine is working properly otherwise I hate it. Can anyone tell that I’m stressed about the whole situation and very frustrated?

As a result, my computer is going to be put into the shop later today. My friend’s grandson has agreed to come get it and work on it. Yea! I have absolutely no idea how long it will take it to get fixed or how long I will be without it as a result, but I know that it must finally be placed in the shop and repaired. Whatever the actual diagnosis, I’m sure my computer will finally be much better off after its visit to the “computer doctor.” My computer will be in the very capable hands of my friend’s grandson because this is what he does for a living. Nevertheless I’m still going to feel very lost without it because I use it so much.

I am sorry that the problems have occurred and must be fixed. The time has come to finally have the problems addressed and fixed. That is why there will not be any further post for the next several days, as I will have no computer access whatsoever. If I had had more notice as to when the “computer doctor” was going to come and get the computer, I would have done several days worth of post in advance but that just wasn’t possible this time. Sorry about that everyone! I will be back posting again as soon as possible.  This is Hummingbird signing off until next time.

Get Out and Vote!

Today is Election Day 2008 in the United States. This is the day that we as American citizens have the right to go to the polls and cast our ballot for the candidates of our choice. I don’t know about you but I was truly beginning to wonder if this day would actually ever truly arrive, because the campaigning seemed to have been going on for the past two years of so. Enough already! The end is finally upon us. Yea! Regardless for whom you choose to cast your ballot, I would encourage everyone to go to the polls and let your opinions be known. Don’t let your busy, hectic lives be the cause of your not taking time to vote.

After all, regardless of the outcome, this election will make history. We will either elect the first African American  President or the first women Vice President. I, for one, want to make sure my opinion has been expressed in this matter. That way it will be easier for me to know that I did my small part to take part in this historical event in the history of our country.

I am not an overly political individual, but I do feel that it is important for everyone to get out and vote and thereby express your opinion in this election. Here in America, we have the freedom to vote for whomever we choose. The same can’t be said for other countries of the world, so you ought to count yourself blessed to have this privilege and not take the responsibility that comes with it lightly. If you choose not to exercise your freedom of choice and right to vote, I don’t feel that you have earned the right to complain if you don’t like the election results, no matter what they may be. So, do us all a favor and exercise your right to vote…you will feel better knowing that you did so.

On a personal note, this day also marks my sister, Karie’s 50th birthday. Happy birthday, sis! I wanted you to know that I was thinking of you as you mark this milestone in your life. You are probably still traveling, as a result of your move from Florida back to Texas, so I won’t be able to reach you. Have a great day! I’m very happy that you will be much closer to the family as a result of the move.
